I chose the flower "Rue Anemone" to paint. I ended up running into trouble with the masking material and the watercolor went through. I feel like I could've done a neater job with the flowers themselves, but I really like the contrast in the dark background because it makes the white petals pop. If I were to do this again I would also be more consistent with the green paint for the leaves.
I chose the book "the girl in the tangerine scarf" for my book title project. I chose it because I imagined many possibilities of how to draw it. I ended up drawing a girl silk dancing. I like how mine turned out with the soft colors and contrast between the graphite figure and colorful scarf. It makes the tangerine color pop.
I created this project with the idea of representing things that mean a lot to my best friend, Rebekah, and I. Rebekah moved to Colorado in the summer of 2016 and I realized the approximate midpoint between our cities is St Loius, Missouri. It just so happens that "The Gateway to the West" AKA the St. Louis arch is located in that same city.
I decided to construct an arch out of cardboard to represent this landmark and collage photos of my favorite things on one side, and my best friends favorite tings on the other. They meet in the middle with things that we both like. Constructing the arch was a challenge, but really helped me learn to persevere. I started out with paper trying to create a net that would fold up to a triangular arch. It took trials and errors but I finally got it close to what I wanted it to look like. I then traced it onto cardboard, cut it out, and wrapped masking tape around it to secure it together. The first arch was too small so I ended up making another using the same teqnique but tweaking it to better represent the actual arch. In this project I experimented with the pricipals of Variety, and balance. I learned to take time to perfect my technique. I am very happy with the finished arch. I made a mixed media portrait of my face using collage. The reason I used black and white on the face had no significance except to create contrast against the colorful background. I'm glad I used bright colors because it represents my bubbly, colorful personality. I am really happy with this piece because it had me use different mediums and inspired me to experiment more.
